Socio-Economic Development

Large and medium-sized companies are encouraged to contribute 1% of their Net Profit After Tax to assist unemployed people to gain sustainable access to the economy. Contributions to this Pillar of the BEE Codes can be in the form of monetary grants or professional services. Skills transfer and environmental education are key focus areas within the Pillar.

Our programmes

We implement upcycling programmes using our clients’ waste material. Access to the economy for unemployed people is facilitated through specially designed training workshops in which delegates are taught to make saleable items from the waste.

We have developed three innovative products designed to solve the most pressing social and environmental challenges.

1. Seed Balls – vegetable seeds, compost and fertiliser encased in a mould created from disposable coffee cups.
2. Solar Cookers – these are devices which are constructed from waste wood. And use the energy of direct sunlight to heat, cook or pasteurize drink and other food materials.
3. Self-Irrigating Planters SIP) – The SmartPlanter is constructed from plastic buckets or crates, and is designed to provide people living in townships or informal settlements with the means to grow their own vegetables to supplement food security.
